You’re going to die. Not now. But eventually.
You’ll be remembered by your children. Your grandchildren. And if you’re lucky, maybe even your great-grandchildren. Beyond that generation, you will end up like most of us wandering the Earth. Completely forgotten. As if you were never even here.
All of that effort you put in at school. The years you spent building your career. The relationships. The experiences. And the memories. All for nothing. The seconds, minutes, days, weeks, months and years that added up to your life. Gone. For most of us.
This is not another diatribe on how to live each day as if it were your last. Quite the opposite actually. That theory makes for a great Nickelback song, but is hardly a feasible way to live. If today was your last day would you really spend most of it at work? Would you bother to read this post? Would you even be able to function knowing that you were about to die? Of course not. And even if you were able to go through your life that way, in the end the result is the same. You’re dead.
Instead, what I’m suggesting is that you live each day as if it was your first. To wake up every morning with a clean slate. Freedom from your past. Unlimited possibility.
Every single day.
Imagine What Life Would Be Like…For Us All
What could you accomplish by approaching each day from that perspective? I don’t know. But I have to believe that it is something extraordinary. Something that makes a difference. That leaves your footprint on the earth. Permanently.
Something that changes the world and the people on it for generations.
And it’s a good thing because we’re ready for it. We need you. We need a modern day Martin Luther King, Jr. Someone for Steve Jobs to pass the torch to. The next Mother Theresa to help our sick and hungry.
That’s how you become immortal.
There is no magic potion that will help you live forever. We were made to expire. It’s part of the deal. It’s what constantly reminds us that we don’t have forever to get done what we need to get done. But just because we can’t live forever doesn’t mean we can’t live forever.
Who Out There Is Going To Step Up?
We owe a debt of gratitude to those that stood before us. People like John Lennon, Rosa Parks and Princess Diana. Leaders like Abraham Lincoln, Mahatma Gandhi and John F. Kennedy. Those that forced us to see the world differently like Walt Disney and Helen Keller. People that have lived well beyond their years. And will continue to live well beyond their years. Because they did something. They left their mark.
And that can be you. You can step up and make a stand for something important. Stop an injustice. Help where no one else wants to help. Stand for those that can’t stand by themselves. Create something. Write something. Inspire someone. Make the world laugh. Make the world cry.
Or just make the world OK again.
We Need You To Change The World For All Of Us
I get it. It’s a lot to ask. Probably way too much. Most of you reading this are not going to give it a second thought. You’ll finish reading this post. Love it. Hate it. Maybe leave a comment. Maybe share it and pass the responsibility onto someone else.
And that’s OK.
But there is someone out there reading this. And that person is going to do something legendary. Maybe this post will be the match that lights the fire. Maybe this post will be just what they need at a point when they start to lose faith. Maybe this post will give them the confidence to keep pushing forward.
Maybe. Or maybe not.
All I know is that there is someone out there. Someone that has the passion, the strength and the vision to change things. And I challenge them. Right here and right now.
Be immortal.
